๐ The Seasonal Fruit Calendar: What's at Its Best, When
๐ Last reviewed: August 2026
Why season matters: in-season fruit is picked ripe (more nutrients), travels less (fresher), and costs less (supply). Out-of-season fruit is picked early and ripened in transit โ the difference in taste is real.
Spring (Mar-May): strawberries (peak), apricots arriving, early mangoes, rhubarb. The first berries of the year are the best.
Summer (Jun-Aug): the fruit festival โ watermelon, melon, mango (peak), peaches, plums, cherries, lychee, pineapple, papaya, passion fruit. This is the season to eat fruit by the bowl.
Autumn (Sep-Nov): apples and pears (peak), grapes, pomegranate, figs, late plums, dates (harvest). The crisp-fruit season.
Winter (Dec-Feb): citrus โ oranges, mandarins, grapefruit, lemons (peak), plus kiwi, guava and bananas year-round. Citrus is winter's vitamin-C answer to cold season.
Year-round staples: banana, apple, avocado, lemon, grapes (stored), papaya and pineapple from tropical regions โ available most of the year.
The practical habit: buy what's cheapest and most fragrant at the market โ that's what's in season near you. Your fruit bowl naturally becomes more varied, cheaper and tastier all year.
