๐๏ธ First Time at the Gym? 10 Rules That Save You From Embarrassment and Injury
๐ Last reviewed: August 2026
1. Start light โ embarrassingly light. Master the movement, then add weight. Ego is the #1 injury cause.
2. Learn the big five: squat, hinge (deadlift/RDL), push (bench/press), pull (rows/pull-ups), and carry (farmer's walk). They cover 90% of real strength.
3. Warm up 5 minutes: light cardio + dynamic stretches. Skip the long static stretching before lifting โ do it after.
4. Full range of motion: a full rep with a lighter weight builds more muscle and mobility than a half rep with heavy.
5. Rest 48h per muscle group: muscles grow on rest days. 3 sessions/week is plenty for beginners.
6. Nutrition basics: eat protein at every meal (eggs, chicken, yoghurt, dal, lentils), drink water, and sleep 7-9h โ recovery is half the training.
7. Follow a plan, not vibes: our workout plans give you day-by-day structure so you never wander.
8. Track your lifts: a note in your phone. Progress = adding weight or reps over weeks โ that is what "progressive overload" means.
9. Ignore everyone: no one is watching you. Everyone started where you are. Use machines first (safer), then free weights.
10. Consistency > intensity: the person who trains 3ร/week for a year beats the one who trains 7ร/week for a month. Just show up.
